Name Vote
The project team wants to know what you think the new community should be called, ensuring the site’s local historical and geographic surroundings are reflected in the name.
We have shortlisted three names below, so that you can choose which one you prefer.
Brook Rise
Bushby Brook is an important natural feature in the local environment, located to the south of the site. By adding Brook with Rise, we link the name to the hill leading up to the Uppingham Road, where the development would be situated.
Thorn Garth
Thorn nods to neighbouring Thurnby’s Old Norse origin (þyrne = thorn-scrub), combined with Garth, from Old Norse (garðr = an enclosed yard/green).
Busk Rise
Using the same principle of Old Norse derivatives above, Bushby’s Old Norse name is linked to the shrubs of the local area (buskr = bush/shrub). By dropping the ‘r’ we get Busk, which is an easy, single English syllable, combined with Rise to reflect the hill at the site.
